Stonehenge hawthorn long bead necklace (PE1253)

£20.00 - Sold out

This simple, tactile pendant is carved from hawthorn wood. The wood was carefully and respectfully gathered from the land near the ancient, sacred site of Stonehenge in southern Britain. The bead is hand carved and the natural markings within the wood makes each one beautifully individual.

The Hawthorn tree is strongly associated with Faeries. It is said that when the Oak, Ash and (Haw)thorn grow close together it is a favourite haunt of the Fey people and that solitary Hawthorns growing on hills or near wells were considered to be markers to the world of Faeries. The Hawthorn is a potently magickal tree which has long been associated with the festival of Beltane.

The bead is supplied with leather or cotton cord thong and can be hung vertically (hanging style 1 on the numbered photo - the thong is doubled and threaded through the resulting loop at the top of the bead so the bead will sit vertically) or horizontally (hanging style 2 on the numbered photo - the thong is threaded through singly so the bead will sit horizontally when the thong is tied closed for a necklace). If you have a preference about the thonging type or the hanging style please add a note in the message box during checkout. The first four photos show the two beads currently for sale, the numbered photo shows two different beads.

Bead size: 3.5 - 4 cm /1 3/8 - 1 1/2 inches long (approx. - will vary just slightly between beads as they are each hand carved)
