Twisted Elder Tree Spirit (TS097)
This Tree Spirit figure has been created from a piece of naturally twisted elder wood from the ancient and beautiful Savernake Forest in southern Britain.
The free-standing figure is incredibly tactile, so feels good to gently hold during meditation or for ritual use. It feels full of positive energies.
The figure is adorned with a raven's foot (visible in the third photo), a deer antler tip, and a Hampshire hazelnut. The hazelnut has a spiral added, an ancient symbol of life and lifeforce. A red ochred animal bone has also been added. The red ochre is from a traditional source, the Luberon mountains in France.
A special addition is a hare's ear. Like many of the animal and bird parts that we use, the hare's ear was respectfully gathered during our countless woodland ambles. Covering many miles of countryside, and over many years, we sometimes discover the natural death within the life of land. It feels fitting to occasionally respectfully gather them, and to then celebrate the life of the animals and birds by using them to adorn these figures.
A woven cloak, a string of dried rowan berries, raven feathers, and a medicine bag complete the figure. The bag contains dried rowan berries, traditionally associated with protection, and our protective herb blend, created from herbs which are traditionally considered to aid protection and bring energies of peace.
The figure itself is filled with a potent mix: more of our protective herb blend which includes herbs respectfully gathered from the land surrounding the sacred site of Stonehenge, combined with fly agaric, betony, mugwort, and the root of enchanter's nightshade.
Fly agaric is a famous fungi known from mythology and fairy tales, and is considered to have strong associations with witchcraft and the Fae.
Betony is traditionally associated with protection, both of the area surrounding it, and of the person carrying or wearing it. If placed beneath the pillow, it's considered to protect the sleeper against nightmares. It's also associated with dispelling negativity and soothing tensions.
Mugwort has been used for millennia to to aid clairvoyance, lucid dreaming and astral projection. Our ancestors drank tea made from the leaves and it has also been used in incenses or smoked to induce visions. In times past it was considered to act as a protective charm, warding off evil.
Enchanter's nightshade has long associations with witchcraft and sorcery. It's considered to aid inner conflict and has been traditionally used to find balance by bringing opposites together. Binding, hexing and enchantment is also associated with this beautiful herb. It is also connected with the goddess of the moon, and was used in spells and rituals to call upon her power.
The herbs are sealed inside with a plug of Summer solstice-gathered holloway blackthorn.
The base of the figure has the elder ogham symbol and a bindrune for protection added, and these can be seen in the last photo.
