Holloway Yew Hag Spirit (HGS50)

£180.00 GBP Sold Out

This natural and earthy Hag Spirit figure has been newly created from a piece of windfallen ancient yew. The piece contains a range of natural colours and markings within it.

The wood was carefully gathered from a beautiful holloway, a lane walked by people dating back into the mists of time (read more here). It's a beautifully warm colour and feels full of positive energies. The piece contains a hole within it, reminiscent of a hagstone. Within mythology, hags are powerful and complex female figures.

The figure is incredibly tactile, so feels good to hold during meditation or for ritual use. It carries a protective root and herb bundle which can be best seen in the second-to-last photo. It includes the leaves of wormwood, and enchanter's nightshade. Enchanter's nightshade has long associations with witchcraft and sorcery. It's considered to aid inner conflict and has been traditionally used to find balance by bringing opposites together. Binding, hexing and enchantment is also associated with this beautiful herb.

The roots of Solomon's seal, yarrow and St. John's wort are added to the bundle. Yarrow brings its strong associations with clairvoyance and powers to promote divination, and St. John's Wort is traditionally used to repel negative energies. Mugwort brings its history of being used to aid clairvoyance, lucid dreaming and astral projection. The bundle is finished with the dried flowers of yarrow.

An animal bone has been added, along with a hare's ear. Like many of the animal and bird parts that we use, the hare's ear was respectfully gathered during one of our countless woodland ambles. Covering many miles of countryside, and over many years, we sometimes discover the natural death within the life of land. It feels fitting to occasionally respectfully gather them, and to then celebrate the life of the animals and birds by using them to adorn these figures.

Raven feathers, a simple deer bone bead, and a medicine bag complete the figure. The bag contains dried rowan berries, traditionally associated with protection, and our protective herb blend, created from herbs which are traditionally considered to aid protection and bring energies of peace.

The figure itself is filled with dried white horehound, dried fly agaric, and Stonehenge-area mugwort. White horehound is considered to be one of the best plants to use for warding off evil spirits and keeping negativity away, and is well-known for it's use against hexes and curses. Fly agaric is a famous fungi known from mythology and fairy tales, and is considered to have strong associations with witchcraft and the Fae.

Mugwort has been used for millennia to to aid clairvoyance, lucid dreaming and astral projection. Our ancestors drank tea made from the leaves and it has also been used in incenses or smoked to induce visions. In times past it was considered to act as a protective charm, warding off evil.

The herbs are sealed inside with a plug of heather also gathered from the land surrounding Stonehenge.

A bindrune for protection has been added to the base of the figure, and this can be seen in the last photo.
