Beltane Fertility Spirit (TS092)
This natural and earthy fertility spirit figure has been newly created from the root of a windfallen ancient yew. The petite piece was created at Beltane, and contains a range of natural colours within it.
The wood was carefully gathered from a beautiful holloway, a lane walked by people dating back into the mists of time (read more here). It's a beautifully warm colour and feels full of positive energies.
The figure is incredibly tactile, so feels good to hold during meditation or for ritual use.
A hare's ear and bones have been added, bringing the animal's associations with springtime, luck and fertility. Like many of the animal and bird parts that we use, the hare's ear and bones were respectfully gathered during our countless woodland ambles. Covering many miles of countryside, and over many years, we sometimes discover the natural death within the life of land. It feels fitting to occasionally respectfully gather them, and to then celebrate the life of the animals and birds by using them to adorn these figures.
A simple hawthorn wood bead, and a medicine bag complete the figure. The bag contains dried juniper berries, traditionally associated with fertility.
The figure itself is filled with hawthorn, juniper berries, and dried fly agaric. Hawthorn has long associations with Beltane, lust and fertility. Fly agaric is a famous fungi known from mythology and fairy tales, and is considered to have strong associations with witchcraft and the Fae. The herbs are sealed inside with a plug of mistletoe.
A bindrune for protection has been added to the base of the figure, and this can be seen in the last photo.
