Itchen blackthorn Dream Walker (DW013)

£50.00 Past item

This friendly figure is carved from windfallen blackthorn wood, carefully and respectfully gathered from the site of a sacred spring which is the source of the River Itchen in Hampshire, a place with ancient fertility connections and associated with the prehistoric British Goddess Ica.

The figure is filled with our Druid's herb blend and includes herbs respectfully gathered from the land surrounding the sacred site of Stonehenge. The herbs are sealed inside with a plug of mistletoe, traditionally considered to be a sacred plant of the Druids.

The Dream Walker is dressed with a woven cloak and a medicine bag filled with a dreamy blend of dried herbs and plants from folklore which are traditionally considered to aid protection and sleep. The figure is finished with raven feathers, a boar's tooth and seasonal nuts, dried berries and garnet eyes.

General information
Similar to the Tree Spirit figures, these are our smaller Dream Walker figures. They are based on the prehistoric anthropomorphic figures found in Britain and Europe during archaeological excavations. Many of the originals reside in museum collections. These figures are Spirit of Old's take on what prehistoric people were making and using in the area, and an interpretation of their spirituality - an ancient idea brought forward for use in modern witchcraft.

The Dream Walkers have a defined purpose: protection during sleep. Each figure is created specifically with this in mind, and they are crafted from carefully gathered, earthy materials sourced locally. The main wood of each Dream Walker is selected from a variety including yew root, hazel and blackthorn from the Stonehenge area, and also from British bog oak from Suffolk, dated to the the Iron Age, so just over two thousand years old. Most, though not all, of the figures are free-standing - if this is important to you, please email en[email protected] to find out about a particular figure.

Each figure wears a woven cloak and has a medicine bag filled with a dreamy blend of dried herbs and plants from folklore which are traditionally considered to aid protection and sleep.

Mugwort has been used for millennia to aid clairvoyance, lucid dreaming and astral projection. Our ancestors drank tea made from the leaves and it has also been used in incenses or smoked to induce visions. In times passed, it was considered to act as a protective charm, warding off evil.

Betony is traditionally associated with protection, both of the area surrounding it, and of the person carrying or wearing it. If placed beneath the pillow, it's considered to protect the sleeper against nightmares. It's also associated with dispelling negativity and soothing tensions.

The pieces are perfect to place beneath your pillow, or upon a surface near your bed. They also feel good to hold during meditation or for ritual use.
